are putting together your resumé
* Remember the job of the resumé is to
get you an interview and it is the interview which leads to the job.
So gear your resumé and cover letter towards getting the interview.
* Proofread your cover letter and resumé--mistakes
can mean immediate dismissal from consideration.
* Have a clearly stated job objective in your
resumé.
* Make sure your resumé highlights and
stresses the skills the employer needs.
- If your title is says your are the assistant,
but you actually manage a function be sure to state that you were
managing the function.
- Use action words and verbs to describe what
you did in your last job.
- Stress the results you achieved, how it saved
the company money, etc.
* Emphasize your accomplishments not your responsibilities
in your resumé and cover letter.
* Characteristics to emphasize in your resumé
and cover letter:
- Being a team player
- Taking ownership of responsibilities, tasks,
functions.
- Open to new ideas.
- Respectful of others.
- Ability to communicate.
- Awareness of need to increase stockholder value
- Aware of current trends in the industry
