Ebay Strategy

The Thrift Meister has found Ebay a great source of savings. The trick with using Ebay is to know what kind of items readily lend themselves to be purchased there and what kind require more caution.

For instance the Thrift Meister regularly buys items that are considered consumer non-durables there such as batteries, print cartridges, razor blades, even after shave lotion. These are simple straight forward items that not much can go wrong with them. The kind of items to stay away from are those with lots of moving parts which are much more likely to have a product defect which require returning it. For example, a VCR has plenty of moving parts and much more could go wrong with it than a battery.

Then you have to contact an online supplier and decide who pays shipping etc. all of which is more complicated than just returning it to a store. Of course, this is not to say that sufficient savings on a product shouldn't make you take a risk with an Ebay seller just think through the process of what could go wrong and how you would correct it before buying.

And, of course check the seller's rating before buying to see if previous buyers have given them positive feedback.

Don't just limit your Ebay experience to buying items on the cheap--you can sell items of your own to raise cash as well.

If you are not already a registered Ebay user don't waste any more time--use the link right here to get registered and start saving money in one of the World's largest markets.

* Don't trust the scanners at check-out counters. They make mistakes.

* Many grocery stores have a policy to match their competitor's prices. Ask them to match if you're not sure.

* Shop thrift and consignment stores—you can find name brand clothes with the original tags still on them at greatly reduced prices.

* Look in dollar stores for batteries, they often sell all size batteries for less than you can get them anywhere else. Even alkaline batteries.

(Long distance cards--use the comparison chart to find the rate best for you--calls as low as 1.5 cents a min. no connection fee so 30 min call is 45 cents, cards from $10, start calling right away)

* Don't leave packages in an unattended car--lock them in the trunk. If its a hatchback or SUV without a trunk at least carry along an old blanket and cover them up so they aren't visible to anyone looking in the vehicle.
