* Use old shower curtains for a ground cloth.
* Bend a coat hanger into an S shape and attach
chain to it to make a hook to hang your lantern from a tree limb.
* Pliers make good pot holders.
* Use prescription bottles to keep matches dry.
* Collect laundry lint to use as fire starter.
* Carry a plastic bag along to bring back wet
wash cloth, damp soap, and other wet items. Don't put them in the plastic
bag too early though or they will mildew.
* An upsidedown frisbee will give support to paper
plates.
* Use old candle stubs to run along the edge of
a saw will make it glide better.
* Use baking soda to wash hand in to remove pine
sap from hands.
* Frozen meat and frozen juice cans packed around
other foods help keep them cold.
* Matches can be kept dry by dipping them in wax.
When need them scrap was off tip.
* Make a camp washing machine from a five gallon
bucket and a toilet plunger.
* Measure ingredients for each meal ahead of time
and pack in ziplock bags. Label bags.
* Remove musty smell from canteen by putting three
teaspoons of baking soda into the canteen with a bit of water. Swish
it around and let sit for an hour, then rinse out the canteen.
* Waxed-paper milk carton can be used as a lead
proof trash can.
* Mosquitoes and biting flies are attracted to
dark colored clothing so wear light colors. Light colors are also cooler
in the summer time.
* If using a waxed-paper milk carton to freeze
water in, put the carton in a plastic bag and tie it shut and the ice
will last longer.
* Toilet roll can be kept dry by packing it in
a coffee tine with a snap-on lid.
* Make a water rescue line by filling a plastic
bleach bottle with an inch of water and tying a rope to it.

* Pots and pans can be used as mixing bowls thus
saving space when packing. Put things in the pots when packing for camping
trip to save space.
* Ring campfires with rocks and keep water and
shovel nearby.
* If camp site has a shower in it--wear flip flops
while showering. Plan showers at off times to beat the crowd.
* To make an emergency heater soak a roll of toilet
paper in a combustable liquid (lamp oil, kerosene, or charcoal lighter
fluid) then store the roll in a metal coffee can. When needed remove
the lid and light the top.. it will burn for hours and provide a great
source of heat and light. Remember not to use in any confined space
like a tent because of fumes.
* Always remember to bring spare batteries. Not
just what you think you will need, but extra ones.
* Make camp before dark so its easier to see trash,
broken glass, ant hills etc.
* To help avoid insects don't wear perfume or
cologne. Use deodorants and hair spray which are unscented.
* Dont drink water from streams with out purifying
it first.
