Thrift Meister - Land of the Frugal and Home of the Thrifty

This section contains marketing ideas and tips for the entrepreneurs among us.

* Make up small fliers advertising your business in a word processor which consist of a few lines and your web site if you have one, phone numbers, fax number etc. Make sure you can get several on one page then print the page and cut off the different fliers. Devote one sentence to a promotion or special deal. When you mail your bills to local companies include one of the fliers.

* If your business is done over the internet and you can sell to buyers at great distances then do make the fliers and include with all the bills you mail even if they are across the country.

* Further, when you get unsolicited offers for credit cards and the like take the return envelope (they are postage paid back to the vendor and someone has to open it) and put one of your fliers in it even it you don't accept the offer--just put your flier in the envelope and mail it back. The postage is free and the cost per flier if you get several per page either copied or printed is almost nothing.

* Have your web site address printed on your checks.

* Have your web site address printed on your envelopes and return address labels.

* Instead of paying for letters and envelopes and more expensive postage--do a mailing with post cards.

Free Products for Home or Office

* If you want to do a letter combine your efforts with several other small business owners to split the cost of the envelopes and postage and put your individual flyers in the envelopes.

* Offer your previous customers a referral fee (or gift certificate, discount or some premium) for new business referrals they send you.

* If your suppliers know potential customers--offer them a referral fee or premium for new customers they send your way.

* Save peanuts and packing materials in things you order to use in things you ship.

* Junk mail can be shredded and used as packing material.

* Catalogs and phone books can be shredded and used for packing material.

* Review your forms--if you have two forms look for opportunities to make one form front and back--this saves paper costs and can cut down on time spent creating duplicate information.

* Check for used office equipment in local for sale by owner newspaper, Goodwill, or consignment stores.

Thrift Meister Bonus

The above link takes you to a TM Bonus page which details several free money making opportunities. They won't make you rich, but can generate a little pocket change for you as they have for the TM.

If you haven't discovered ebay and the ability to sell on line yet then you need to get with the program and avail yourself to the world wide market that you can sell into through Ebay. Never before in history has an individual been able to sell to potential buyers all over the world--and the cost to do so is almost nothing.Get registered on ebay and your old items waiting for a yard sale are prime candidates to be listed on ebay and bid on by buyers all over the country or even other parts of the world. Before the internet and ebay you would have to set up a distribution channel that had outlets where ever you wanted to sell or at least have produced a catalog and distributed to where you wanted to sell, but now the internet is available over much of the world and potential buyers are lurking anywhere and everywhere ready to buy what you are offering to sell.

The internet has provided the infrastructure and ebay has provided the market place so use these powerful tools to make yourself a little extra money now and then even if you don't do it often.
